World Book Day 2017!!!

On Friday the 3rd of March, Dromahane National school celebrated world book day. It was a very enjoyable day!!  The children, parents and the staff all dressed up as characters from different books. The senior classes had a talk from author Kieran Crowley and the junior classes had Rory from Mallow library  read extracts from some great books. All classes really enjoyed listening to our speakers. We also had a book sale which was organised by the Parent’s association. The children got to buy some extra reading material and we also raised money for the school!! Thank you to our two speakers and the parents for organising a great day!!! Here are some pictures from the day……

History Project Success!!

Congratulations to the students of 5th Class in their recent success in the Discover Cork Schools Heritage Project. The judges were delighted with the student’s hard work stating ‘The standard of production was very high this year.’

Projects on ‘Kilshannig Ladies Football’ and ‘Famine Houses’ won second and third places respectively in the Primary Group Category.

An awards ceremony will take place in the Silversprings Convention Centre, Silversprings Hotel Cork at 7pm on Wednesday March 2017. All projects will be on display at this event. A special presentation will also be made to the class for their participation in the project.

Junior Entreprenuer 6th Class 2017

The students of 6th class have worked diligently over the last couple of months under the guidance of their teacher Ms.Brennan to create entrepreneurial businesses as part of the Junior Entrepreneur Programme. The class were divided into groups and each group set out to create a real business conceived from scratch with real products and services to attract real customers who pay for what is produced.

The ideas created were excellent and varied from calendars, to coasters, to Dromahane’s own version of Monopoly ‘Dromopoly’ . The deciding vote was cast by our three dragons: Mr. Murray, Ms. O’Sullivan and a special guest dragon Jim Barry of Barry Group, Mallow. The decision was tough but was made and the winning group together with all of 6th class will bring their business to the Junior Entrepreneur Showcase Day.

A special thank you to Jim Barry who took the time to come and see our projects!!

We completed a variety of exercises including jumping jacks, lunges and squats. We ensured that we were fully active for the full ten minutes!! Everyone really enjoyed participating and we hope to incorporate whole school initiatives like this more frequently into our busy school life! It was a lot of fun! 5th Class Cork Heritage History Projects.

5th Class students were recent participants in the Cork Heritage History Project. The class were divided into groups and each group investigated a different aspect of our local history. Areas included;  Blarney Castle, Bweeng during 1916, Famine houses, The history of Kilshannig G.A.A, The history of Kilshannig Ladies football, Mallow Castle, Nazareth house and Róilig Padraig graveyard. As well and completing a 3 dimensional construction, each group also completed a portfolio outlining why they chose the project and disclosing the information they discovered while undertaking the projects. Each project was completed to a high standard under the excellent guidance of Ms. Cronin. The projects made us all more aware of the vast history we have so close to home

Here are some pictures of our projects. Check out our 5th Class page to see more!!
